Canva Connect: Editing Creatives

How to edit your existing Canva Connect Templates

This article covers two scenarios:

  1. Editing existing templates
  2. Editing templates at the "Import to Properti" initial stage

Scenario 1: Editing Existing Templates

If you need to make changes to creatives that have already been successfully imported to Properti—whether for minor aesthetic tweaks, a complete redesign, or repositioning elements—follow these steps:

  1. Open a new tab and go to Canva → Projects.
  2. Find the brand template, hover over it, click the three dots (⋮), and select "Edit Brand Template".
  3. Make the necessary changes, including adding any new data fields.

⚠️ Not seeing Data Autofill? Data Autofill button is in the left hand menu in Canva. If you can't see this, click on Apps and search Data Autofill.
Click on Data Autofill, select "Custom" and "I've connected my data source".

  1. Click the "Data Autofill" button in Canva’s left-hand menu.
    • Select the newly added or missed layer and assign a label to the data autofill box.
    • You’ll find the data autofill labelling options in the toolbar alongside text, font size, and colour settings.
  2. Click on a layer, then click the Data Field in the toolbar.
  3. Click "+ Add New".
  4. Type the name of the layer and click "Add".
  5. Repeat these steps for any newly added layers.

🚨 Important: Before returning to Properti, collapse the Data Autofill app in the side menu (by clicking on it) to avoid issues.

📌 Image 1 shows it open, Image 2 shows it collapsed.

Returning to Properti & Creating a New Template

  1. Underneath the template you’ve modified, click "Import to Properti".
  2. Follow the prompts until you reach the screen displaying ⚠️ icons next to newly imported fields.
  3. Complete the mapping by selecting the relevant function for each new field.
  4. Continue through the next screens until you select a listing to generate a preview of the updated creative.
  5. If everything looks correct, complete the import—the new changes are now applied to the template.

Scenario 2: Editing Templates at the "Import to Properti" Initial Stage

If you're importing a new design and notice during preview that:

  • a) Some data autofill fields aren’t complete, OR
  • b) Design changes are needed (e.g., text box sizes, colours, fonts).

Follow these steps:

  1. Keep the Properti preview screen open.
  2. Open a new tab and go to Canva → Projects.
  3. Find the brand template, hover over it, click the three dots (⋮), and select "Edit Brand Template".

  1. Republish the template:
    • If a "Republish Template" button appears (top right), click it.
    • If not, click "Share" → "Publish Brand Template" to update it in Properti.
  2. Return to the Properti preview screen and click "Back" to go to the data field mapping (if new fields were added).
  3. Click "Next".
  4. Generate the preview again by selecting a new listing to test the updates.

The updated changes should now be reflected in Properti.
